The New 2024

 Kia Seltos

The subcompact SUV segment is a competitive and peppy segment, and has fast become a favorite among new car buyers. It’s full of vehicles featuring character and quirkiness, built for smaller families and the single driver.

Few subcompact SUVs exemplify the segment better than the 2024 Kia Seltos. Offering one of the most spacious cabins in the segment, eye-catching styling, and an enjoyable driving experience, the Seltos stands out amongst the competition!

Performance Features

Two different four-cylinder engines are offered under the hood of the 2024 Kia Seltos. The base model is a 2.0-liter engine that puts out 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, for decent power-to-weight ratio. It’s responsive, piped through a continuously variable transmission that moves smoothly up through the rev ranges.

Upgrading to the 1.6-liter turbocharged unit brings more power and a different feel. 195 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque helps it hop off the line and cruise easily on the highway. This power goes through a traditional 8-speed automatic that offers shift points to give that feel you’re used to. Getting this engine means getting all-wheel drive – however, the 2.0-liter engine offers the choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

Across the model line-up, fuel economy varies. The 2.0-liter engine with front-wheel drive gets 28 MPG city and 34 MPG country, while with all-wheel drive it gets 27 MPG city and 31 MPG highway. The 1.6-liter turbocharged unit gets 25 MPG city and 27 MPG highway. These numbers are average for the segment.

Style and Technology

At first glance, the 2024 Kia Seltos provides conventional styling, a departure from its sibling Soul. The upgraded exterior styling features a fun yet aggressive-looking front end as well as bottom trim that adds some beefiness to the model. 17- and 18-inch wheels are available on the Seltos.

Inside, the Seltos pulls off something the rest of the subcompact SUV segment fails to do – make plenty of space for four 6-foot adults to ride comfortably. The rear seats offer 38.4 inches of head room and 38.0 inches of leg room, which is comparable with many compacts that sit on larger footprints. Even with all this room for passengers, the Seltos also manages plenty of cargo volume, providing 26.6 cubic feet with the seats in place and 62.8 cubic feet when they’re folded down.

The 2024 Kia Seltos brings plenty of tech to the segment, with a standard 8-inch touchscreen and available 10.25-inch touchscreen, both with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The touchscreen display comes with navigation and Kia Connect standard. A six-speaker audio system is standard, with an available eight-speaker Bose Premium system with a sound connected mood lamp. Plenty of USB-C ports are provided for media connection and charging, and QI-compatible wireless device charging is offered.

Safety

The previous generation of the Kia Seltos was a Top Safety Pick, and there’s no doubt the 2024 Kia Seltos will keep pace or even improve. Plenty of standard assistance systems are provided at the base trim level, including a rearview camera, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, forward automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane-departure warning, and Driver Attention Warning, and even rear-seat alert to make sure you remember kids and pets! There are plenty of optional systems offered at higher levels, and the Seltos can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, highway driving assist, vehicle-exit warning, adaptive cruise control, and rear parking sensors.

Trim Levels

There are five different trim levels available on the 2024 Kia Seltos, which means there’s something for everyone!

The entry-level LX trim is one of the most affordable models in the segment, and comes with cloth upholstery and durable hard plastic trim. 17-inch wheels are standard, as is a fully black front grille. The 8-inch touchscreen audio system features a USB media port and there are two second-row charging USB-C ports. Air conditioning and remote keyless entry are standard as well, and the front seats are manually adjustable.

At the S trim, you won’t see much of a price bump, and it’s more than worth it! Outside, the Seltos gets an upgraded grille, satin chrome window surrounds, roof rails, and heated side view mirrors for better winter visibility. Interior upholstery is upgraded to cloth with synthetic leather trim, and the touchscreen is upgraded to the 10.35-inchversion with navigation, satellite radio, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. The steering wheel ad shift knob get leather wrapping, and ambient LED interior lighting adds some nice touches. Automatic climate control keeps everyone comfortable, while push-button remote start lets you get the Seltos started and warming up in the winter – or cooling in the summer – before you leave the house! Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and vehicle exit warning safety systems are standard on this trim. Heated front seats are optional.

X-Line trims come with the 1.6-liter engine as standard, which means all-wheel drive is standard. It’s mainly a high-powered version of the S trim, with the same standard features. Outside, there are noticeable differences, with 18-inch gloss black finish alloy wheels and black sport design roof rails. The grille is gunmetal gray, and features a distinct X-Line design. Inside, heated front seats are added.

Adding more conveniences into the S trim, the EX trim still remains affordable. Heated front seats are standard, and the driver’s seat gets power-adjustability with lumbar support. Upholstery is upgraded to synthetic leather throughout. Wireless device charging is standard. A cabin-opening sunroof is available, and you have the option of front- or all-wheel drive.

At the top of the model line-up is the SX trim, combining the best of the X-Line and EX trims while adding a few more party tricks. It gets the eight-speaker Bose audio system as standard, along with a universal garage door opener. Upgraded safety and driver’s assistance features include stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, highway driving assist, and traffic sign recognition. The available package features the sunroof, as well as ventilated front seats. Owners will also appreciate the available hands-free power liftgate for loading and unloading ease.
